Madonna's rather predicable new ad campaign for Louis Vuitton will appear in February, but of course, the photos are already out and about.
According to WWD, designer Marc Jacobs saw one of her concerts in Paris, and in a burst of uninspired synergy,
"I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna.' I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.”
None of which comes across in this photo by Steven Meisel. According to LV's communications honcho, Antoine Arnaut, this series of 6 photos is groundbreaking for the luxury brand:
It’s a big change from what we were doing. It tells a story.
The story of a contortionist who's trapped in a Paris bistro, and can't get the attention of the waiter? The location is actual Figaro, here in LA on Vermont.
And Madonna's no slouch in the creativity department herself--she suggested the fishnets. Jacobs, who really shouldn't be allowed to speak for himself, is thrilled with the results:
Excepting the references and excepting the clichés, this still feels very today. And it didn’t feel so much like a fashion shoot, it feels like portraits.
Right you are, if you think so.
Madonna's previous ad work includes H & M, Versace, Gap, Mitsubishi Electric, Ebel Swiss watches, Motorola ROKR, and probably zillions more.
Remember when Pepsi dumped her? Good times.
